Journalists Initiative for Youth Empowerment (Ji4Ye) is an independent non-profit organization that works with and for young people in Nigeria, to enable them to develop positive responses to the issues that affect them daily and deny them opportunities for growth and development.

Ji4Ye uses media, communication, and entertainment extensively in her work of changing the story of young people. Ji4Ye is best known for developing and implementing communication tools, techniques, strategies, channels, media materials, messaging and contenting, as well as building the capacity of organizations, communities and individuals in the development community in using them effectively to achieve set goals and objectives.

What sets Ji4Ye apart from other organizations is her systematic method of developing, implementing and monitoring communication and youths programs which increase impacts. From design, contenting, pre-test, implanting, monitoring, our integrated process is highly participatory, our messages resonates, community ownership is embedded, feedback is emphasized, and sustainability is promoted.

Ji4Ye has successfully partnered with Nigeria’s Federal government in implementing some of her leading youth programs. Similarly, we have successfully partnered with other international and civil society organizations, as well as individuals in developing, implementing or coordinating communication and media programs.

Ji4Ye was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission-CAC/IT/N0. 60372 in 2013, and also recognized by the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)-Ref: NUJ/CAC/1/II/12/Vol 1. Ji4Ye was founded by an award-winning development journalist, communications and knowledge management specialist, Obinna Chukwuezie in Abuja on October 4, 2011.

How we work

  1. Media Material Design and Production:
    We design and produce visuals, audio materials, prints, TV/video, documentary, theatre, photo, Web Content, apps, and social media.
  2. Media training and capacity building:
    We build the capacity of civil society organisations and actors in communication tools, techniques, strategies, messaging and contenting. We also set up of communication system and structures for organisations and projects including data and information management systems. We offer specialized trainings on Social Behavioural Change Communications (SBCC), Conflict Sensitive Communication, Communication strategy development, media advocacy, Branding and marketing communication, Inter-personal Communication and Counseling (IPC/C).
  3. Media Programming
    We develop and implement transformative communication strategy for organizations, projects and causes, including social media strategy, and Social Behavioral Change Communications (SBCC).

We implement Participatory Theatre Performances, Street theatre, Music concert, radio program, magazine, radio drama, Community Radio, Voices of Change, Video/Photo documentary, TV series, Mobile Cinema Video Dialogue, Animation, short videos, comic books, Bulk SMSing, Gathering and telling success stories to audiences, press conferences, Virtual Meetings/Conferences/Meetups/Hang-Out on Google+, Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, among others

We also craft messages, run campaigns, advocacy, lead dialogues, generate journalistic reports/stories, conduct researches/baselines/FGDs, KIIs and other surveys, digital mapping tools, and analysis. Again, we organize opinion polls, media/public debates, media tracking/monitoring and press engagements. We set up coalitions and discussion forums.

We also have expertise in monitoring and reporting their impacts in achieving set goals and objectives.

    We seek end to girl child marriage, female genital mutilation and enabling girls to fulfil their potentials
  • We advocate for safe, healthy and dignifying environment for youths

Where we work

With a head Jos office (North Central Nigeria), we have robust institutional capacity, competent human resources and media equipment to deliver impactful programs across Nigeria. We focus on young Nigerians, especially 13-40 year olds, irrespective of gender, faith and social conditions. We are non-partisan, neither are we a platform for the actualization of any individual’s political ambitions.

  • Ji4Ye is a member of Global Coalition for Conflict Transformation. (GCCT is a global coalition of organizations committed to upholding and implementing the Principles of Conflict Transformation).
  • Ji4Ye is a member of Girls Not Brides (a global partnership of more than 450 Civil Society Organisations committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfil their potential).

Our Mission

Design, implement and monitor programmes, as well as support and strengthen efforts that enable young people to succeed. Also, we build institutional and individual capacity to implement youth-focused activities; as well as serve as resource for youth development communication in Nigeria.

Our Guiding Principle

Ji4Ye is an organization that committed to team members development. We are innovative, patriotic, creative, hardworking, goal-oriented, honest, technically competent, service-oriented and open to learning. Also, we believe that Nigeria can achieve ‘Zero Hunger’ SDG 2, by 2030.
